Today (22th) is the 42nd “World Earth Dayâ€, and Wang Min, the deputy minister of land and resources, said that China’s geothermal resources are abundant and there are broad prospects for development and utilization.
The theme of this year’s World Earth Day is “Treasure Earth Resources and Transform the Way of Developmentâ€. The Ministry of Land and Resources held a meeting in Chongqing on the same day to tackle global climate change and geological work on energy conservation and emission reduction.
Geothermal is a green, clean energy source. The assessment of geothermal resource potential in China shows that the shallow geothermal energy resources of 287 prefecture-level cities in China are equal to 9.5 billion tons of standard coal per year, and the amount of available resources is equivalent to 350 million tons of standard coal per year. By the end of 2010, the use of conventional geothermal heating reached 35 million square meters.
