The position of ceramic bond diamond grinding wheel in modern industry

Abstract With the rapid advancement of science and technology, a variety of high-performance materials—such as high-strength, high-wear-resistant, high-hardness, and high-temperature-resistant lightweight materials—are continuously emerging. At the same time, mechanical processing is evolving toward higher quality, precision, efficiency, and automation. Traditional resin-bonded diamond wheels are increasingly struggling to meet these demands. In response, ceramic-bonded diamond grinding wheels have emerged as a promising solution, offering superior performance and reliability in modern industrial applications.

Ceramic-bonded diamond grinding wheels are known for their high strength, excellent heat resistance, sharp cutting ability, and high grinding efficiency. They generate less heat and are less prone to clogging during the grinding process, which helps maintain dimensional accuracy due to their low thermal expansion. Compared to resin-bonded wheels, they offer longer life, better stability, and reduced deformation during use. These advantages have made them widely adopted in developed countries across Europe and America, particularly in the processing of challenging materials such as semiconductor wafers, solar wafers, diamond composite sheets, polycrystalline diamonds, cubic boron nitride, tungsten carbide, advanced engineering ceramics, gemstones, crystals, and rare earth materials. Their application has brought significant economic benefits to industries that rely on precision machining.

Ceramic Diamond Wheel

In the early stages, ceramic-bonded diamond wheels used for grinding PCD tools lacked standardized specifications. Around 2008, domestic manufacturers began producing these wheels in China, following the efforts of pioneers who had previously focused on resin-bonded alternatives. Over time, the 6A2 model became a standard option for PCD tool grinding, with common sizes including 150, 125, and 100 mm. Today, many users refer to these wheels as "6A2 ceramic diamond wheels," "cup-shaped ceramic diamond wheels," or "grinding wheels for PCD/PCBN tools." As the manufacturing industry continues to grow, the term "ceramic diamond knife grinding wheel" has also gained popularity. The production process for ceramic-bonded diamond wheels in China has now matured significantly, ensuring consistent quality and performance.
