The position of ceramic bond diamond grinding wheel in modern industry

Abstract With the rapid advancement of science and technology, new materials with high strength, high wear resistance, high hardness, high temperature resistance, and lightweight properties are constantly emerging. At the same time, mechanical processing is evolving toward higher quality, precision, efficiency, and automation. Traditional resin-bonded diamond grinding wheels are increasingly struggling to meet these demands. In response, ceramic-bonded diamond grinding wheels have emerged as a promising solution, offering superior performance in various applications.

Ceramic-bonded diamond grinding wheels are known for their high strength, excellent heat resistance, sharp cutting ability, and high grinding efficiency. They produce minimal heat during operation, reducing the risk of thermal damage and clogging, while also exhibiting low thermal expansion, which helps maintain machining accuracy. Compared to resin-bonded wheels, they offer longer life, better stability, and improved performance, especially when working with hard and brittle materials.

These wheels are widely used in developed countries for processing advanced materials such as semiconductor wafers, solar wafers, diamond composite sheets, polycrystalline diamonds, cubic boron nitride, tungsten carbide, engineering ceramics, gemstones, crystals, and rare earth materials. Their application has brought significant economic benefits and improved production efficiency.

Ceramic Diamond Wheel

Initially, ceramic-bonded diamond wheels for grinding PCD tools lacked standardized specifications. However, since around 2008, domestic manufacturers in China began producing these wheels, marking a turning point in the industry. Early adopters of resin-bonded diamond wheels gradually shifted their focus to ceramic-bonded alternatives, leading to the development of standard models like 6A2, available in common sizes such as 150mm, 125mm, and 100mm.

Today, many domestic users refer to ceramic-bonded diamond wheels for PCD tools as "6A2 ceramic diamond wheels," "cup-shaped ceramic diamond wheels," or "diamond grinding wheels for PCD/PCBN tools." As the manufacturing industry continues to grow, the term "ceramic diamond knife grinding wheel" has become more common. The domestic production process for ceramic-bonded diamond wheels has also matured, making them a reliable and efficient choice for high-performance grinding applications.
