In 2012, the total amount of wind power interconnection in China reached 60.83 million kilowatts, and the power generation reached 100.4 billion kilowatt-hours. Wind power has surpassed nuclear power to become the third-largest main power source following coal-fired power and hydropower.

In 2011, China's wind power cut-off (in which wind turbines were connected to the grid, but power generation was limited due to power grid regulation orders) reached 10 billion kWh, and it is expected to reach 20 billion kWh in 2012.
