June 28 marked a significant milestone for China Petrochemical Corporation's Ten Dragon scientific and technological projects, as the final two sub-projects of Nanjing Chemical Industry Co., Ltd.'s integrated wastewater treatment initiative are now in the delivery phase. Following nearly four years of intensive research, the project has developed an advanced domestic wastewater treatment technology that covers organic, inorganic, and fine chemical processes. This innovation is set to provide strong technical support for the sustainable and green development of the petrochemical industry.
For many years, treating nitrochlorobenzene wastewater posed a major challenge. Over the past decade, Nanhua had experimented with various methods, but these approaches often suffered from issues like weak catalyst activity, unsuitability for long-term use, or problems with solid waste disposal and open-process treatments. In 2009, the group company initiated a joint research effort between Nanhua and the Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Industry to tackle this complex issue. Experts spent extended periods on-site, refining oxidation treatment technologies to ensure stable and continuous operation of the wastewater plant. The post-COD levels were reduced by 53.4% compared to traditional catalytic or electrolytic oxidation methods. The enhanced oxidation treatment unit for nitrochlorobenzene wastewater was officially commissioned in August 2011, achieving a stable operation rate of 97%. Additionally, a technical upgrade involving the conversion of wastewater into coal slurry was implemented last August, allowing the processing of 20 tons of nitrobenzene wastewater per hour.
This time, CCCC highlighted the two sub-projects that involved the longest pipelines, the most complex technologies, and the greatest construction challenges. Existing equipment was either upgraded or replaced, and the comprehensive wastewater treatment plant expansion and transformation have reached the production preparation stage. The total sewage treatment capacity will reach 15,600 cubic meters per day, while new biochemical treatment facilities for inorganic wastewater will be added. The company is steadily moving forward with trial production and summary work to ensure successful completion within the year.
