The first China Red Expo project briefing was successfully held on August 5, 2013, at the Zhonghui Hotel in Changshu. The event, titled "Su Changshu Contemporary Mahogany Furniture Industry and the China Development Forum and the Red Expo Project," brought together nearly 100 representatives from mahogany enterprises, experts, scholars, and media. Co-sponsored by Haiyu Suzuo Mahogany Furniture Chamber of Commerce and Bixi Suzuo Mahogany Furniture Chamber of Commerce, the forum was organized by the China Red Fair Organizing Committee and Zhao Yixue Business Planning Agency, with support from various media outlets such as Sina.com, "East China Furniture," "Impression Mahogany," and local newspapers and TV stations.
The forum was presided over by Mr. Zhao Yixue, the promoter of the China Red Fair, and was divided into three main parts: keynote speeches, high-level dialogues, and project presentations for the first China Red Expo. Jiang Zhenqiu, Vice Chairman of the Changshu Municipal People's Political Consultative Conference, delivered a welcoming speech and praised the mahogany furniture industry for its role in promoting Changshu’s civilization and driving employment in the region. He emphasized the need for entrepreneurs to focus on innovation, marketing, and brand development to ensure sustainable growth.
In the keynote speech, Zhao Jianguo, Chairman of Changshu Haiyu Suzuo Redwood Furniture Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of Changshu Golden Bat Craft Furniture Co., Ltd., highlighted the significance of the China Red Expo, calling it a milestone for the furniture industry that would greatly contribute to the development of mahogany furniture. Zhang Zhengji, President of Bishu Suzuo Redwood Furniture Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of Jiangsu Mingjia Craft Furniture Co., Ltd., shared his insights on how Changshu’s redwood SMEs can expand their market presence. He stressed the importance of differentiation, leveraging existing platforms, and positioning Changshu’s redwood furniture to compete effectively against other regions like Dongyang and Xianyou.
National intangible cultural heritage master Xu Jianping, an inheritor of Ming-style furniture-making skills, pointed out that while Changshu furniture once dominated the Shanghai market, it now faces challenges due to lack of innovation. He urged companies to improve product design and launch new items to stay competitive. Wang Chanjuan, Director of Operations at Zhao Yixue Business Planning Institution, led the high-level dialogue, emphasizing the historical responsibility of Changshu’s redwood industry to revive its traditional craftsmanship and explore new paths for development.
Zhang Zhengji also shared Mingjia’s experience, suggesting the use of "injection tung oil" instead of wax injection for better environmental protection and product performance. He highlighted the importance of talent retention and modern machinery for large-scale enterprises. Ma Jianping, Chairman of the Changshu General Chamber of Commerce, noted that with rising living standards, the future of redwood furniture looks promising, but technical innovation remains crucial for healthy development.
Gong Jiangang, Chairman of Jiangsu Huisheng Mahogany Furniture Co., Ltd., focused on transforming Su Zuo mahogany furniture into a dominant industry in Changshu. Tang Wenqing, Director of Changshu Yongtai Mahogany Furniture Factory, stressed the importance of integrity management and product quality improvement. Dai Guomin, General Manager of Changshu Longbo Redwood Furniture Co., Ltd., warned about the competition from Fujian products in the Shanghai market, urging vigilance and proactive strategies.
Wang Yuefeng, Chairman of Changshu Dongda Redwood Furniture Co., Ltd., reviewed the 40-year development journey of Changshu’s redwood industry, highlighting the success factors of Mingjia, including advanced business philosophy, quality, and integrity. He called for continued exchanges among enterprises to drive progress. Zhang Zhengji concluded with a vision for Su Zuo furniture, advocating for tailored approaches, retaining the Shanghai market, and regaining lost ground through innovative designs like Xinhai style.
During the promotion session, Wang Chanjuan introduced the four highlights of the Red Expo: "one wall, one sand painting, one song, one sand table," emphasizing the need for the event to stand out in the redwood industry. At the end of the forum, guests visited the sand table model and took a group photo. Zhang Zhengji expressed interest in reserving space in Hall 4A, while Haiyu Suzuo Redwood Furniture Chamber of Commerce booked a booth in Hall 3A.
After the meeting, Wang Chanjuan was interviewed by reporters, stating that the Red Expo would inject energy into the industry, inspire entrepreneurship, and foster stronger exchanges among professionals. It is reported that the next stop for the first China Red Expo project briefing will be Dongyang, where further discussions on the development of the redwood industry will take place.
