KOYO bearings come in two types: those with adjustable clearance and those without. When installing, it is essential to adjust the axial clearance (though some non-adjustable bearings may not require this). This adjustment is crucial to compensate for thermal expansion of the shaft at high temperatures, ensuring the bearing operates smoothly. If the axial clearance is too small, the bearing may become difficult to rotate, overheat, or even seize and get damaged. In such cases, a copper rod and hammer can be used to gently tap the bearing into place, ensuring a proper interference fit. Alternatively, a soft metal sleeve can be used with a hammer or press for smoother installation. On the other hand, if the axial clearance is too large, it may lead to abnormal noise and vibration during operation. To address this, the hot-fit method can be employed. However, improper temperature control during heating can cause the bearing to temper, reducing its hardness and potentially leading to severe deformation or cage damage. Regular inspection is vital. If the bearing shows signs of overheating, unusual noise, or vibration, it should be stopped immediately to identify and resolve the issue. Bearings that are severely worn, rusted, cracked, or have a hardness below HRC < 60, or those producing excessive noise that cannot be adjusted, must be replaced promptly. Delaying replacement can result in serious damage to the bearing and even the rotor, disrupting normal production processes. Other factors such as improper disassembly, loose anchor bolts, or misalignment can also cause indentations on the raceway and rolling elements, leading to cracks in the inner and outer rings of the bearing. Proper alignment of the coupling is also critical. Most working equipment connects the input shaft to the power shaft via a coupling, so it's necessary to ensure the driving and driven shafts are aligned on the same axis during installation. Rotor imbalance is another common issue. While most rotors are balanced before installation, some may become unbalanced due to corrosion, wear from solid particles, or a bent shaft during operation. This imbalance can generate centrifugal forces, causing the bearing to overheat, vibrate, and eventually wear out or fail. The lubricant used in KOYO bearings has specific operating temperature limits. If the temperature exceeds these limits, the lubricant may degrade, losing its effectiveness and leading to overheating and potential burning of the bearing. Additionally, poor-quality lubricant or inadequate refueling during operation can also result in increased bearing temperature or noise. **Strategies to Address Issues:** 1. During installation and disassembly, strictly follow maintenance procedures and operate carefully to avoid damaging the bearing. 2. Regularly inspect the bearing during operation, detect any issues early, and resolve them promptly. 3. When replacing a bearing, thoroughly check the new one and perform detailed inspections of the shaft diameter, bearing housing bore, and rotor. 4. Ensure timely lubrication to maintain optimal bearing performance at all times.
