Abstract Recently, Quanzhou stone enterprises have received some encouraging news. The import tax on marble and limestone has been reduced, offering much-needed relief to local businesses. As a major province for imported stone raw materials, Fujian is expected to benefit significantly from the preferential tariff policy. This adjustment not only helps reduce operational costs but also enhances the competitive edge of local products in the market. According to customs data, this change is anticipated to bring substantial savings to the industry.
Under the 2012 General Administration of Customs Notice No. 63, the provisional tax rate for various goods has been adjusted, with an increase in the number of items subject to lower rates compared to 2012. These provisional rates are based on the Most-Favored-Nation (MFN) tariff, reflecting a broader strategy of tax reduction. Specifically, two types of dolomite—classified under HS codes 25181000 and 25182000—now face an MFN rate of 3%, while the provisional rate has been lowered to 1%. Since these three types of minerals can be used interchangeably as construction materials, the tax cut offers considerable advantages. It is estimated that this policy could save over 10 million yuan for Quanzhou-based companies importing dolomite.
