Prevention and treatment of cucumber keratosis

After the cucumber starts to bear fruit, the humidity inside the greenhouse increases due to the application of fertilizers and water. This rise in moisture creates a favorable environment for bacterial growth. At this stage, it's essential to manage humidity levels and apply pesticides promptly to enhance the plant's resistance and promote healthy development. Controlling pathogens is crucial to prevent disease outbreaks. On sunny mornings, the temperature should be maintained between 25°C and 30°C. This range supports normal flowering and pollination. However, if there are prolonged periods of cloudy, rainy, or foggy weather with temperatures below 22°C, it can hinder nutrient synthesis, disrupt flowering, and weaken the plant’s immunity. On sunny days, if the temperature exceeds 30°C, ventilation should be done to lower the temperature. Once the temperature drops to 23-25°C, the greenhouse should be closed and misted to maintain proper humidity. During the middle of the night, keep the temperature around 15-20°C to support plant health. On cloudy days, if there is fog in the morning and the temperature reaches 12°C, ventilate for 20-30 minutes before closing the greenhouse. Even if the sun doesn’t appear at noon, allow air circulation for 1-2 hours. In the evening, if it remains cloudy, open the curtains to let in fresh air. According to China Pesticide Network, here are some effective prevention methods: 1) Chemical control: Use a 50% Dithane (Copper Oxychloride) solution diluted 500 times, a 72% Streptomycin solution diluted 4000 times, a 77% Mancozeb solution diluted 1200 times, or a 12% Copper Fatty Acid Emulsifiable Concentrate diluted 600 times. These solutions should be alternated and applied every 4-5 days, with up to 3-4 applications as needed. 2) During the early stages of infection, especially on cloudy days, use smoke or dust formulations for prevention and treatment. Common dusting agents include 5% Chlorothalonil Dust, 10% Frostgram Dust, and 5% Triforine Dust. These help control fungal diseases effectively when used correctly. By following these practices, you can ensure better crop health and reduce the risk of disease outbreaks in your cucumber fields.
