Rolling bearing experience determination method

Experience-Based Judgment Method for Rolling Bearings

Rolling bearings are essential components in many mechanical systems, and their proper functioning is crucial for the smooth operation of machinery. To ensure reliability, it's important to understand how to judge the condition of a bearing using practical experience. Here’s a detailed guide on how to evaluate different types of rolling bearings. (1) **Radial Ball Bearings** For radial ball bearings, check that the inner and outer raceways are free from chipping, severe wear, or damage. The raceways should have a bright, uniform finish, and the balls must be perfectly round without any signs of pitting, cracking, or detachment. The cage should remain firm and not show any looseness or deformation. When you rotate the inner ring with one hand and push the outer ring with the other, it should turn smoothly. You may hear a slight rolling sound, but there should be no vibration, sudden stop, or backward movement after stopping. The clearance between the inner and outer rings and the rolling elements should typically be between 0.005mm and 0.010mm. If there is excessive play (over 0.03mm), the bearing should not be used. (2) **Tapered Roller Bearings** After use, inspect the tapered roller bearing for signs of damage. Check if the rollers and inner raceway are intact, and ensure the cage is not too loose. Also, verify that the edges of the inner ring are undamaged and that the outer raceway has no cracks. When the inner ring and roller assembly is placed into the outer ring, the rollers should sit centrally in the raceway, with no more than 1.5mm of forward displacement. Any deviation indicates the bearing should not be used. (3) **Spherical Roller Bearings and Short Cylindrical Roller Bearings** These bearings have separable outer rings. Under normal conditions, the inner and outer raceways and the rollers should be free from cracks, pitting, or deep wear. The cage should not be deformed and should hold the rollers securely in place. The clearance between the raceways and the rollers should not exceed 0.06mm. Any significant wear or deformation makes the bearing unsuitable for further use. (4) **Thrust Ball Bearings** For thrust ball bearings, check both raceways for damage or severe wear. The balls should be intact, without cracks or pitting, and the cage should remain rigid and not deformed. The balls should be tightly held in place by the cage and not move freely. If the cage is loose or the balls are damaged, the bearing is no longer safe to use.
