The Yiwu Furniture Fair has officially unveiled the "Rattle" as its official mascot, marking a historic moment as it becomes the first mascot in the history of the China Furniture Trade Fair. The mascot was chosen to represent the cultural heritage and spirit of Yiwu, symbolizing the traditional "chicken feathers for sugar" culture that once thrived in the region. This unique wooden toy, one of the oldest ethnic woodwork art forms in China, embodies both tradition and craftsmanship.
The Yiwu Furniture Exhibition aims to create an international platform for furniture trade, and selecting a rattle as its mascot is a meaningful choice. As the organizers explained, the rattle not only reflects the local culture but also aligns with the fair’s mission to promote national wood art. According to historical records from the "Yiwu County Chronicle," during the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, local farmers engaged in the "chicken feathers for sugar" trade. Salesmen would carry sugar on their shoulders and shake rattles while walking through the streets, using the rhythmic sound to attract customers.
The Yiwu people believe that this "rattle culture" played a key role in shaping the city's entrepreneurial spirit, which eventually led to the rise of Yiwu as the famous "World Supermarket."
"The rattle is more than just a toy; it is a cultural symbol and a recognized traditional woodwork art form that has spread across the globe," said Chen Jiangen, a representative from the Yiwu Exhibition Organizing Committee. "It perfectly represents the spirit of China's furniture trade and is the ideal mascot for an international event."
The first trial version of the "Rattle" mascot has already been released and has received positive feedback at major furniture fairs in Shanghai, Guangzhou, and High Point. Foreign buyers have shown great interest in the design. The official mascot will be further refined, with enhanced craftsmanship and higher-quality materials. It is expected to make its official debut by the end of the year.
