Numerical control (NC) technology is the cornerstone of advanced manufacturing, playing a crucial role in driving industrial modernization. A country's level of NC technology reflects its overall industrial development and national strength. Beyond its economic value, NC technology holds strategic importance that affects national security and technological independence. Currently, China's enterprise machinery manufacturing still lags significantly behind developed countries. Most CNC machine tools and systems are imported, making them expensive to acquire and difficult to maintain. This dependency leaves Chinese industries vulnerable to foreign influence and supply chain risks.
Additionally, maintenance capabilities for CNC equipment are limited, and the cost of imported spare parts remains high. Many CNC systems imported into China have become obsolete or failed shortly after installation, leaving enterprises with unused or underutilized machinery. As a result, the proportion of CNC machines in Chinese enterprises remains extremely low—less than 5%. The majority of manufacturers still rely on outdated traditional machine tools, which struggle to meet the demands of modern, high-tech production processes.
To reduce costs, maximize the value of existing equipment, and improve efficiency, it has become both necessary and inevitable to retrofit these traditional machine tools into CNC systems. This transformation not only enhances productivity but also supports long-term technological self-reliance and industrial competitiveness. By upgrading older machinery, Chinese enterprises can bridge the gap with global standards and better position themselves in the evolving manufacturing landscape.
