Shenyang severely punishes units to conceal occupational hazards

Recently, a reporter learned from the Standing Committee of the Shenyang Municipal People's Congress that the "Regulations on the Supervision and Management of Occupational Health in Shenyang" will come into effect on January 1, 2014. These new rules aim to enhance workplace safety and protect employees from occupational diseases by imposing stricter requirements on employers.

The regulations state that employers who are involved in activities that pose occupational health risks must organize regular health examinations for their workers. In particular, employees who are planning to leave their positions or roles that may expose them to harmful conditions should undergo medical checks before they depart. If an employer fails to conduct such an examination within the required timeframe, they cannot legally terminate or end the employee's contract. Additionally, when signing or modifying labor contracts, if an employer does not fully disclose the risks of occupational hazards, fails to arrange health screenings, maintain proper health records, or inform employees of the results as required, local safety authorities can step in. They may order corrections, issue warnings, and even impose fines ranging from 50,000 to 100,000 yuan.
