In an effort to accelerate the growth of the photovoltaic industry, the Chinese central government has invested a total of 7 billion yuan to support the demonstration of 3,157 megawatts of photovoltaic power generation. This comes in addition to the earlier allocation of 6 billion yuan for 1,930 megawatts at the start of the year, bringing the total investment for 2012 to 13 billion yuan. As a result, the total installed capacity of domestic photovoltaic applications has reached 5,200 megawatts, significantly boosting the development and implementation of solar energy projects across the country.
According to recent reports, in line with national policies, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is spearheading a new initiative called "Photovoltaic Going to the Countryside." The goal is to bring solar power into rural areas on a large scale and capitalize on the opportunities presented by ongoing urbanization. It's estimated that there are 50 million mu (about 3.3 million hectares) of standardized agricultural greenhouses nationwide. If all these structures were equipped with integrated photovoltaic systems, it could potentially drive a rural market worth 250 billion yuan.
